Jacob started a YouTube account - Shift Points - with his dad, Mike, in January - wants to create a virtual community of car enthusiasts that’s reminiscent of car communities that used to hang out and work on cars every week together. He said that working on your own projects can be isolating.
Since starting their YouTube channel, they’ve reconnected with old friends (Mike has even reconnected with some friends from high school!) that have become subscribers of the channel, made new connections through people that are curious about the work that they’re doing, and have questions regarding car restoration.

What is the importance of cars to you and your family?

What is the importance of cars to you and your family?

Mike has been working on cars since age 16 and has been a business owner for almost 20 years. Mike’s dad was interested in anything BUT cars but would always back him and support his interests.
Jacob said, “My grandpa, he was a farmer through and through. We always say that he became a welder so that he could farm. And my dad (Mike) became a welder so that he could NOT farm.”
They live near Charlotte, the home of Nascar, so car culture is extremely important to them and to others in their area. Some of their local friends even started a cruise-in a few miles away from their shop

Are you involved in any online car forums?

They’re always keeping tabs on the knowledge that’s out there about vintage car restoration - constantly looking through forums for answers to their YouTube viewers’ questions and for their own personal projects

Are you working on any projects involving SWPP parts?

They bought the V8 Pro Series Distributor and Remote Ignition Coil for ‘64 Ford Galaxie 500 and will be showing installation on their YouTube channel.
Jacob has had the Galaxie since he was 16 years old, it was left to him by his great uncle, who has since passed away. Jacob said, “We’re just excited to get it running and take her (our great aunt, 82 years old) for a ride. They met when he had this car, and they dated in this car. It adds sentimental value for both me and for her.” Their ultimate goal is to get the car to cruiser status, and they recently got it to run for the first time in many years. It has affectionately been named the “Shift Points-mobile” by their channel subscribers.

What work is left to do on the ‘64 Galaxie?

Roughly one more month of work left. They still have to revamp disc brakes, put headers on it, work on the exhaust, and check out the fuel system and carburetor.
